Position Description

The University of Chicago’s Department of Human Genetics in the Biological Sciences Division seeks faculty candidates. Rank and tenure status will be commensurate with qualifications.

The Department has broad research interests and existing strengths in the genetics of complex traits and common diseases, statistical and population genetics, and functional genomics of human diseases. We seek scientists with research interests in any area of genetics relevant to human health, disease and phenotypic diversity that would strengthen and complement our current programs. Areas of particular interest include mechanisms of gene expression and chromatin regulation, genome function, gene regulatory networks, the interplay of genetics and social factors in influencing human health outcomes, and the development and application of computational and statistical analysis tools. Competitive start-up funds and generous research space, including access to state-of-the-art core facilities, will be available, as well as graduate students affiliated with numerous degree-granting programs within the biological and physical sciences.

The University is a vibrant center of scientific discovery and innovation. The Biological Sciences Division, Physical Sciences Division, and the University of Chicago Medical Center, are all contained within one compact campus in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood. This structure facilitates opportunities for multidisciplinary collaboration, notably in the context of two newly launched programs in Computational Biology and (Epi)genomic Networks, as well as for interactions with our affiliates, Argonne National Laboratory and the Marine Biological Laboratory.

Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must have a doctoral degree or equivalent. To be considered, those interested must apply through the University of Chicago’s Academic Recruitment job board, which uses Interfolio to accept applications:http:// apply.interfolio.com/95245. Applicants must upload a CV including bibliography, contact information for 3 references, a Research Statement, and a Teaching Statement [which may also include the candidate’s experience in teaching diverse students, if applicable (The University’s Diversity Statement can be found at https://provost.uchicago.edu/statements-diversity)]. The Research Statement should include a summary of past research accomplishments, and future research plans. Review of complete applications will begin November 1, 2021 and continue until the position is filled.
