What You Will Achieve

The Oncology Research Division in La Jolla, California is seeking a motivated and innovative Senior Scientist (BS/MS level) to join the Biochemistry and Quantitative Pharmacology-Enzymology group within Discovery Technologies. The successful candidate will provide their expertise in mechanistic biochemistry/enzymology to enable the advancement of pre-clinical programs within the Pfizer Oncology portfolio. They will gain in-depth, hands-on experience with cutting-edge drug discovery strategies from concept to clinical candidate nomination on diverse targets ranging from kinases, non-kinase enzymes, and other challenging proteins relevant to cancer.

How You Will Achieve It
  • Conduct high-quality, properly controlled experiments with an emphasis on rigor and reproducibility
  • Perform mechanistic analyses of key project compounds
  • Identify and execute innovative screening strategies using internal and external knowledge
  • Develop, optimize, and validate robust plate-based biochemical assays suitable for screening and SAR
  • Collaborate within the group and across project teams to enable the identification and advancement of promising drug candidates to the clinic
  • Participate and present results at project meetings and other internal, external meetings
  • Communicate results precisely in both written and oral formats


Qualifications

Must-Have
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry or related discipline with 8+ years relevant post-graduate experience or MS degree with 6+ years of experience
  • Experience in biochemistry, including enzyme kinetics and protein-ligand interactions
  • Documented experience in biochemical assay development, providing SAR support
  • Experience with data analyses and management
  • Excellent organizational skills with outstanding verbal and written communication
  • Ability and desire to effectively collaborate within a matrixed and diverse environment
  • Strong self-motivation, can work independently and within a team
  • Positive and enthusiastic attitude with the desire to help others
  • Interest in expanding their own scientific knowledge and skills
  • Experience in managing and coordinating internal and external resources to achieve project objectives


Nice-to-Have
  • Strong interest in evaluating and implementing new technologies
  • Extensive scientific knowledge on a specific area of emphasis for Pfizer Oncology (e.g., Cell Cycle, Cancer Immunology, etc.)


PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to execute laboratory experiments and perform complex data analyses
  • Ability to interpret results relative to published data and ongoing Pfizer programs
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a desire to succeed in a team setting
