Job Details

The mission of The University of Texas M. D. The primary purpose of the Research Scientist position is to plan, coordinate, design and carry out functional genomics and molecular biology experiments towards identification of functional non-coding elements and genes that improve immune cell function. We are looking for a PhD scientist with experience in functional genomics, molecular biology, cancer biology or related fields. Experience in CRISPR-based approaches and routine molecular biology experiments is required. Experience in the field of high-throughput functional genomics (CRISPR or shRNA screening) is preferred.

Key Functions
  • Plan and execute scientific research projects under minimal supervision.
  • Collect, analyze, and present scientific data to the research and management teams; with proposed next steps.
  • Self-motivated and driven to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • The candidate will perform independent experimental research, but will work in close collaboration with the rest of the scientific team in a highly cross-functional and project-oriented environment.
  • Compiles, writes, and submits reports to superior as directed and assigned. Works closely with technicians and staff members with scientific protocols and equipment currently used to perform these protocols.
  • Assists the leaders in METI with scientific business on a daily basis to include: write and edit manuscripts, abstracts, protocols (animal and laboratory), and grants; compile, write, and submit reports to the principal, analyze and manipulate research data; prepare and present data for publication or scientific meetings; maintain current and accurate records of research data; and, obtain and distribute pertinent research materials/data.
  • Contributes to project team.
  • Employ safe laboratory practices.
  • Maintain research records and laboratory notes.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret and present data at laboratory and departmental meetings.
  • Interacts closely with other research staff across institutional functional teams.

Required: Ph.D. in one of the natural sciences or related field or Medical degree.

Experience

Required: Three years of experience in experimental or scientific work.

Preferred: Three years of experience in functional genomics and molecular biology research.
