Site Name: Collegeville TSA Posted Date: Jul 26 2021 We are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic and skilled biologist to join our Translational Cell Sciences (TCS) group within the Functional Genomics (FxG) department at our US Research Hub. The mission of our group is to unlock the genetic clues underlying human disease, thereby delivering new and better medicines for individuals with serious and greatest unmet medical need. To this end, we leverage the power of CRISPR and other gene editing technologies in high-throughput screening approaches, applied in in vitro and in vivo preclinical models, to discover and validate novel disease targets or genetic variants, elucidate genetic interactions, understand mechanisms of drug action and resistance, and identify potential combination therapies. Together with the ability to draw on genotypic and phenotypic databases from our world-leading partnerships with the UK BioBank and 23andMe, and to interrogate the genome through internal and collaborative efforts with the Altius Institute, Open Targets, and the newly-created Laboratory of Genomics Research (LGR) with CRISPR pioneers Jennifer Doudna and Jonathan Weissman at the University of California, we aim to redefine how the industry approaches drug discovery. Working in this multi-faceted, dynamic, and cutting-edge scientific environment, this laboratory-based Senior Scientist role will give you the opportunity to: · apply animal handling and tissue culture expertise in support of functional genomic screens · build understanding of the early drug discovery process, including practical experience in target identification and validation · develop genome editing and screening skills, particularly with tumor, primary and immune cell types · work with key partners in areas of complex cellular model development, computational biology, ‘omics technologies, and automation · interface collaboratively in local and global matrix-team settings · mature public speaking skills through presentation of experimental methods and findings Key Responsibilities · laboratory-based role (>70% work time in the lab) · In vivo small animal handling and dosing with familiarity with IACUC protocols and guidelines · support early drug discovery activities with emphases in working with syngeneic and xenograft tumor models, assay and technology development · design and execute in vivo and cell-based experiments with independence · maintain excellent experimental records, and ensure compliance with all GSK R&D data integrity practices, ethics codes, standards and training, and safety training and practices. · communicate experimental findings effectively, in written and verbal formats · build productive collaborations with GSK scientific partners, locally and globally Why you? Required Qualifications · Masters with at least 2 years of in vivo experience in industry or academia · Background in cell biology, molecular biology or related life sciences field · Experience mouse handling and dosing skills enabling the ability to independently conduct mouse models assessing tumor growth and immune response. · Experience with ex vivo tissue processing Preferred Qualifications · Experience conducting functional in vitro assays such as ELISA, flow cytometry, and western blotting. · Experience with aseptic tissue culture technique with human and murine primary cells and cancer cell lines · understanding in immunology or immune-oncology · familiarity with genetic, proteomic, imaging, and/or other ‘omics technologies · self-motivated with an insatiable appetite for learning · Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a dynamic and flexible team environment Why GSK?
