ROLE SUMMARY

Pfizer's Rare Disease Research Unit (RDRU) is dedicated to the development of novel therapeutics for orphan diseases. As a member of our Integrative Biology team located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, you will lead efforts to design, execute, and communicate computational analyses combining public and proprietary multi-omics datasets. You will work both independently and in teams with laboratory biologists, computational biologists, geneticists, and statisticians within the RDRU and across the broader Pfizer community in a friendly and highly collaborative environment to deliver impactful and actionable insights. You will be challenged to apply your scientific expertise, critical thinking, and creativity both to advance our existing drug portfolio and to identify novel target opportunities. A successful candidate will also be a highly motivated learner who is looking to grow as a scientist and as a leader.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design, execute, document, and communicate integrative multi-omics data analyses
  • Apply principles of sound statistical design and develop novel methods when appropriate
  • Stay current with relevant biological and computational literature, conference proceedings, and emerging methodologies
  • Manage, develop, and maintain internal and external collaborative projects to specified timelines and milestones
  • Synthesize and clearly communicate study findings and analyses to a diverse audience of internal partners, leadership, and collaborators
  • Manage, support, and promote relationships with the external community that can add value to target selection and validation for the RDRU


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.
  • Background in biological and/or quantitative sciences; PhD in a biology, cellular/molecular biology, computational biology, data sciences, or a related field with 5+ years of relevant experience, preferably in a pharma or biotech environment
  • Sound statistical and quantitative skills with an understanding of the methods implemented by commonly used 'omics data analysis packages
  • Fluency in start-to-end analysis of multiple types of 'omics data such as bulk RNAseq, scRNAseq, spatial transcriptomics, ChIP-seq, proteomics, metabolomics, or epigenetics with particular expertise in at least one these
  • Proficient in programming, scripting, querying and statistical analysis languages such as R, Python, and SQL
  • Proficient in Unix-based command line interface and familiarity with high performance computing
  • Proficient in standard methods for reproducible research such as Jupyter notebooks and/or Rmarkdown
  • Familiar with versioning tools such as git
  • Deep understanding of human biology/medicine, ideally with experience in any one of the following: neurology/neurodegenerative disease, repeat expansion disease, cardiomyopathy, non-oncological hematology, or metabolic disease
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize amongst competing time-sensitive projects
  • Prior experience leading group projects
  • Strong desire and demonstrated ability to continually learn new skills


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge of Bayesian data analysis methods
  • Track record of innovative and impactful research including peer-reviewed publications
  • Experience coding and deploying data visualization applications such as R Shiny
  • Experience packaging and maintaining reusable code
