The Abigail Wexner Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital seeks an outstanding faculty candidate for recruitment at all ranks (tenure track assistant, associate or full professor). The individual should direct a research laboratory focused on pediatric cardiovascular disease and/or relevant basic science areas.  Scientific areas of particular interest and/or scientific expertise include the use of cardiac organoid and animal models, chemical biology/drug discovery, cardiac bioengineering and gene therapy for cardiovascular diseases. A track record of translational research is desired.

The mission of the Center for Cardiovascular Research is to transform the care of children, adolescents, and young adults with congenital heart disease and acquired pediatric heart diseases through research and clinical translation.

The new faculty member will be expected to be an active participant in advancing this mission by establishing an impactful and independent research program supported by extramural funding, developing basic and translational scientific collaborations, providing mentorship to colleagues, training the next generation of researchers, and participating in center and research institute activities. The successful candidate should have an MD, MD/PhD, PhD, or equivalent degree, and will have a strong track record for publication in quality journals and current federal grant funding.

The Research Institute is ranked in the top ten nationally in NIH funding to free-standing children’s hospitals.

Research programs are organized into 13 multidisciplinary Centers of Emphasis structured to encourage collaboration, facilitate team science and foster creativity.  The Center for Cardiovascular Research is actively expanding from its current complement of six principal investigators. Principal investigators are also faculty members at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, and most are members of The Ohio State University, Department of Pediatrics and graduate programs at the university. Faculty members also have strong ties to The Heart Center at Nationwide Children’s, which houses the clinical cardiac program.

Ranked 8th on U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Children’s Hospitals Honor Roll,” Nationwide Children’s Hospital is one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit freestanding pediatric health care networks providing wellness, preventive, diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitative care for infants, children and adolescents, as well as adult patients with congenital disease.

As Ohio’s state capital, Columbus and its surrounding metro area is a thriving, diverse, technologically sophisticated city with a population of over 2,000,000. Quality of life and cost of living are outstanding.
