Position Summary

A Staff Scientist position is available in Dr. Alex Wong's NIH-funded laboratory in the Division of Plastic Surgery and Department of Surgery at City of Hope National Medical Center. Primary research areas include lymphangiogenesis, lymphedema, wound healing, and associated pathologies. The Staff Scientist series is designed for career research professionals whose primary function is to support the research infrastructure and activities of the institution. Staff Scientists will bring special skills, knowledge and experience to research programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • The scientist will work with the PI to lead the laboratory's funded research programs in lymphedema and wound healing
  • Using clinically relevant animal models of disease, the scientist will utilize state of the art molecular biology, in vitro systems, and transgenic mice to gain mechanistic insight into our diseases of interest.
  • Collaborate with experts on- and off- campus in multi-disciplinary studies
  • Organize and synthesize data for manuscripts and grant applications


Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:
  • A Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree in life or biomedical sciences, molecular biology, or a related discipline. An M.D with research significant experience will also be considered.
  • Excellent written communication skills as evidenced by prior first author journal publications.
  • Project management skills and experience
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Quantitative and rigorous mindset

Additional Information:
