Open Faculty – Population Health

Texas Biomedical Research Institute (Texas Biomed) is seeking to double its faculty over the next 8 years by recruiting multiple faculty to enhance and expand each of the institute’s Scientific Research Programs in Host-Pathogen Interactions, Disease Intervention and Prevention, and Population Health (see https://www.txbiomed.org/research/). Successful faculty candidates will be expected to synergize with faculty and staff in existing Programs to foster Texas Biomed’s efforts to become national/international leaders in infectious disease research, including research on susceptible populations. Texas Biomed is a free standing, private nonprofit research institute. It supports BSL2, BSL3 and BSL4 programs with unparalleled resources, and is the host institution of the Southwest National Primate Research Center (SNPRC), one of the seven National Primate Research Centers supported by NIH in the U.S.

Texas Biomed seeks to recruit faculty at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor to develop/expand a successful and impactful independent research program that will be supported by federal and independent agency funds. The successful candidate will be provided resources to recruit a team of two additional faculty members with complimentary interests and expertise to expand the capabilities of Texas Biomed in this specific discipline.

Research interests should align with the Population Health Program: Identification of correlates of susceptibility or resistance to infectious and chronic diseases on a population level (both hosts and microbes). Research interests can include fundamental biology of human susceptibility and/or resistance to diseases, the study of pathogen population dynamics and adaptation to human and/or animal hosts, and field studies of human infectious and chronic diseases (e.g., epidemiology, interventions, clinical trials, precision medicine). A focus on infectious diseases or chronic health conditions (e.g. metabolic disorders) as well as comorbidities such as aging that predispose hosts to infection is desirable.

Qualifications: Ph.D., M.D. and/or DVM in a Biological Sciences specialty. Demonstrated research productivity and evidence of an independently-funded research program.  Experience working with interdisciplinary research teams, and mentoring members of underrepresented groups.
