Postdoctoral fellow position-Aguirre-Ghiso Lab, Albert Einstein College of Medicine
The Aguirre-Ghiso Lab at Albert Einstein College of Medicine is recruiting talented and motivated postdoctoral researchers to work on various aspects of metastasis biology. Several positions are available to explore the mechanisms of the micro-environmental (immune and non-immune cells) and epigenetic regulation of disseminated cancer cell dormancy and metastasis initiation. The projects will focus on the mechanisms by which signals produced by organ resident macrophages, myeloid cells with distinct functions, mesenchymal stem cells and adaptive and innate immune cells impinge on solitary tumor cell behavior. The candidates will also explore how these signals impacts the epigenome and transcriptional state in the cancer cells and how these control immune recognition and therapy response.
The Aguirre-Ghiso lab is part of a new state of the art Cancer Dormancy and Tumor Microenvironment Institute at Einstein that is dedicated to understand and target cancer dormancy mechanisms to prevent metastasis. The new fellows will be part of the Department of Cell Biology (https://einsteinmed.org/departments/cell-biology/) and will also be affiliated with the Gruss Lipper Biophotonics Center (https://einsteinmed.org/centers/biophotonics/) where they will be able to interrogate the problems at hand with the most advanced imaging tools including longitudinal tissue specific intravital imaging and image based spatial transcriptomics. Einstein offers also numerous shared resources and Institutes and Centers with expertise that will help complement the research efforts.
The candidates will report directly to the PI and will collaborate with other postdoctoral fellows and students on other projects as directed by the PI. The Aguirre-Ghiso lab engages in multiple collaborations and thus the candidate will have to be amenable to traveling when needed and interacting in a collaboratively and proactive manner with collaborators of the Lab.

The candidates should have experience in basic molecular and cellular biology methods including DNA and RNA isolation, RNAi and CRISPR methods, construct engineering, tissue culture and preparation and analysis of samples through flow cytometry as well as microscopy, among others. The experiments will also require biochemistry techniques including Western blots and immuno-precipitations. Epigenetics studies will require expertise on ChIP-seq and ATAC-Seq and understanding of transcriptional regulation. Expertise in code writing and/or bioinformatics will be weighed as a plus. Single cell RNA-seq will be part of the research efforts as well. Expertise in in vivo work is also key and will entail growing human cancers and detecting single solitary DTCs using microscopy or single cell isolation tools, metastasis in avian and mouse model systems including transgenic mice and immunocompromised mice.
Members of the Aguirre-Ghiso will run independent but complementary projects that are non-competing within in the lab. This strategy allows for a collegial training experience where the goal is to develop the best possible science in a supportive and integrative environment. Preference will be given to trainees with recent PhDs/MDs or equivalent degrees and Postdoctoral Fellows with less than 3 years of training.
