You will perform qualitative and quantitative analyses of organic, inorganic compounds, or biologics to determine chemical and physical properties during chemical syntheses, fermentation or drug product development process.

Your ability to plan will help in preparing short-term work activities on projects. Your creativity in developing novel processes and new ideas will be used frequently. You will undertake mentoring activities to guide your team members.

ROLE SUMMARY

The Scientist will be primarily responsible for in-process analysis using HPLC, UPLC, CE, GC/MS and LC/MS. He/she will be expected to execute experiments, evaluate and report results under guidance of supervisor. The job function requires judgment and innovation to achieve a solution within standard practices and procedures.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Execute, improve and develop analytical methods to support upstream and downstream process development.
  • Collaborate with colleagues within Vaccine Research and Development organization including Bioprocess Fermentation, Analytical, and Formulation Development groups.
  • Present problems and propose solutions in discussions with group members.
  • Independently analyze, interpret, and provide conclusion and present experimental data.
  • Keep abreast of scientific/ technological development by participating in scientific meetings/ seminars and through regular scientific review. Utilize new technologies and establish those technologies to improve understanding of bioprocess.
  • Where applicable, perform job responsibilities in compliance with GLP and all other regulatory agency requirements
  • Satisfactorily complete all GLP and safety training in compliance with departmental requirements and follow appropriate safety practices in the workplace
  • Perform timely notebook entries and review for completed experiments.
  • The individual is expected to contribute and participate in general laboratory maintenance activities (e.g. maintenance of equipment, managing laboratory waste, etc.).
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • The incumbent will interact with Bioprocess Fermentation, Analytical, and Formulation Development groups for support of process development, sample analysis, and formulation activities.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • BS degree with 6 relevant experience
  • Previous experience developing and utilizing separation-based analytical techniques (RPHPLC, IEX, SEC, CE).
  • A strong background in analytical chemistry, protein biochemistry, biophysics, and separation techniques
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • MS degree with 4 years relevant experience
  • Experience with applying these methodologies to biomolecules
  • Hands on experience with liquid chromatography
  • Proficiency with personal computers including word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint and relevant scientific software


TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
  • Knowledge and ability to independently design, plan, and execute instrumental analysis and purification / recovery activities. Proficiency and ability to utilize various techniques such as UPLC, HPLC, FPLC, LC/MS, UV-Vis, CD, fluorescence spectroscopy to isolate and, when necessary, characterize purified vaccine candidates.
  • Independently analyze and provide conclusions regarding experimental data generated
