Full Professor for the Evolution and Diversity of Plants

at pay grade W 3 (minimum salary per month: 7,217 euros) to commence in April 2023. This is a permanent civil service position.

We seek a candidate with an excellent scientific track record in the evolution and phylogenetic relationships of vascular plants at the whole organism level. A research focus will be the macro-evolution of key innovations of ecological and physiological relevance that impact diversification rates and patterns. Methodological expertise in molecular laboratory methods and associated bio-informatic and statistical methods is expected, as is a deep field-based knowledge of plants and their diversity. The research should have clear links to the University of Bayreuth’s focus area in Ecology & Environmental Sciences.

Teaching responsibilities include first year modules in plant diversity and evolution in the BSc Biology, as well as modules in the BSc Biology teacher education programme, MSc Biodiversity and Ecology and the MSc Molecular Ecology. Willingness to conduct field courses and excursions that teach the diversity of plants is expected as is an ability to teach in German and English.

We invite applications from candidates with proven publication impact and funding-acquisition records related to the Evolution and Diversity of Plants. We expect a willingness to contribute to interdisciplinary collaboration in the Bayreuth Centre for Ecology and Environmental Research (BayCEER) as well as a willingness to initiate new collaborative research programmes. Close cooperation with the University of Bayreuth’s Botanical Garden would be desirable.
