Why Patients Need You

Pfizer's purpose is to deliver breakthroughs that change patients' lives. Research and Development is at the heart of fulfilling Pfizer's purpose as we work to translate advanced science and technologies into the therapies and vaccines that matter most. Whether you are in the discovery sciences, ensuring drug safety and efficacy or supporting clinical trials, you will apply cutting edge design and process development capabilities to accelerate and bring the best in class medicines to patients around the world.

What You Will Achieve

Pfizer Oncology Research & Development (ORD) is seeking a Senior Scientist (PhD level) to join our Biochemistry and Quantitative Pharmacology (BQP) group. The candidate will join our interdisciplinary and highly collaborative team to support and advance our preclinical oncology drug pipeline.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cellular and molecular biology, in vitro pharmacology, biochemical and cellular assay development, high throughput screening, and drug discovery and development in the field of oncology.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of scientific success as evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed journals demonstrating the use of various technologies and techniques to identify novel chemical leads or targets from phenotypic based screens for oncogenic or immuno-oncology pathways.

This position will provide the motivated candidate with ample opportunity for scientific growth through exposure to all aspects of the drug discovery process.

How You Will Achieve It

  • Collaborate with various groups across ORD to design novel phenotypic screens
  • Develop screening assays and analyses to interrogate complex biology related to oncogenic signaling, regulation, and control
  • Execute proof of concept studies and pilot screens
  • Coordinate larger scale screening campaigns with internal or external collaborators
  • Perform confirmatory studies using orthogonal assays to validate screening leads
  • Assist in target deconvolution and identification efforts
  • Contribute to new ideas and support on-going projects by staying current with scientific literature
  • Contribute to a culture that prioritizes scientific discovery, pursues excellence, and encourages growth

Qualifications

Must-Have

  • PhD in the biological sciences with 2-5 years of relevant postdoctoral experience. BS/MS with >10 years of relevant HTS experience will also be considered.
  • Demonstrated success in identifying novel chemical lead matter or targets from phenotypic screening for oncology
  • Broad knowledge in high throughput and/or high content screening, functional genomics, sequencing, target and cell labeling/barcoding, image acquisition and analysis, and flow cytometry
  • Extensive experience developing high throughput biochemical and cellular assays including functional assays, binding assays, PPI, proliferation, degradation, and reporter assays (such as TR-FRET, NanoBRET, thermal shift, CETSA, Alpha-Screen, HiBit, flow cytometry, Mesoscale/ELISA, etc.)
  • Strong computer skills to handle large datasets and analyses using various specialized software applications such as Activity Base, Genedata Screener, Perkin Elmer Signals, Spotfire, Pipeline Pilot, D360, Harmony/Columbus, FloJo, and R
  • Attention to detail and ability to prioritize project timelines and daily activities
  • Strong work ethic, self-motivation, fast learner, independent but team oriented, strong communication skills, and an ability to work with a broad range of personalities

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with complex biological models such as co-cultures and 3D systems
  • Experience with multiplexing capabilities
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of cancer mechanisms including but not limited to immuno-oncology, DNA damage/repair, oncogenic driver signaling, epigenetics, therapeutic resistance, and apoptosis
  • Knowledge of combination analysis and synergy
  • Computer programming knowledge/skills

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Candidate will be required to operate various laboratory instruments and hand-held pipettors, lift and transport large stacks of plates, and will need to walk between labs to get to various instruments and supply centers regularly. Candidate will also be performing tissue culture duties which may require spending several hours sitting in front of a biological safety cabinet. Candidate may need to use step stools to climb and reach items above eye level. Must be able to work safely in a laboratory environment with lab coat, protective eye wear and gloves. The job can require standing and walking for most of the day regularly.
