The Rare Disease Research Unit (RDRU) is part of Pfizer's Biotherapeutics in Pfizer Worldwide R&D. Pfizer's Non-Malignant Hematology Research within the RDRU focuses on developing multiple therapeutic approaches to develop new therapies for rare hematologic diseases and rare renal diseases. In this role, the Principal Scientist will have a strong focus on implementing and conducting nonclinical pharmacology studies across multiple therapeutic modalities to support portfolio entry and project advancement. The Principal Scientist will be part of a larger interdisciplinary team partnering closely with RDRU colleagues and partner lines and will be responsible for delivering high quality data to project teams. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated, dynamic laboratory scientist with demonstrated experience and expertise working with disease models. The candidate is expected to work independently in the planning, execution, documentation, and the presentation of complex experiments contributing to development of new drug discovery projects while progressing existing programs.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Independently conceptualize, organize, and perform in vivo/ ex vivo/ in vitro studies to provide high quality laboratory-based investigative data to support project progression across multiple therapeutic modalities.
  
• Design, develop and perform cell-based and biochemical assays.
  
• Apply scientific expertise in drug discovery to advance programs.
  
• Communicate experimental findings accurately and concisely in both oral and written formats.
  
• Contribute to and aid in the development of project in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  
• Work independently and collaboratively across various disciplines.
  
• Build and facilitate internal and external collaborations.
  

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Ph.D. with 5 years of post-Ph.D. experience in molecular and cellular biology, immunology, or related field
  
• Research experience in renal biology or kidney disease.
  
• Extensive experience with a broad spectrum of state-of-the-art cellular and biochemical assays, including novel method development, primary cell culture and the construction of models of disease.
  
• The ability to work independently, and a demonstrated ability to contribute to multiple projects in parallel with scientific rigor and learning agility.
  
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with scientists working in other disciplines.
  
• Strong track record of scientific accomplishments demonstrated through publications.
  
• An understanding of drug discovery and development concepts.
  
• Extensive practical experience working within cross-disciplinary teams and achieving results in a matrix environment.
