ROLE SUMMARY

Develop and deliver chemical, engineering, analytical or microbiological process technology in support of commercial Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) manufacturing. Performs production troubleshooting, support and improvement. Serve as the primary technical expert for the manufacturing methods, perform or direct scientific laboratory studies, and make recommendations to improve manufacturing reliability, cost, safety, compliance and environmental performance. Support the introduction of new processes into the facility, and support in-sourcing and out-sourcing projects for supply chain optimization. Work closely with the manufacturing plant to, review procedures, review process performance data, and solve process problems. Provide technical knowledge, expertise and evaluation for other support functions. Participates on technical or project teams.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Functional/Technical Knowledge: Demonstrates complete understanding and wide application of industry, functional and Pfizer-specific principles, theories, concepts and practices. General knowledge of other related disciplines. Knowledge and application/demonstration of basic leadership principles.

Problem Solving and Innovation: Provides solutions to a wide range of difficult/complex problems. Ability to gather, analyze, apply and interpret information and identify cause and effect relationships. Implements new methods and processes to solve process related problems as assigned. Able to adapt and respond positively to situations and people in order to meet changing work unit priorities.

Discretion, Latitude, Level of Independence: Works independently under only general direction while keeping Management informed of goals and progress. Participates in determining objectives of assignments. Independently determines and develops approach to solutions.

Impact and Organizational Contribution: Decisions impact the achievement of objectives and the reputation of the department, and actions help to set the reputation of the department. Progresses multiple projects in parallel and on time

Teamwork/Influence:

Represents the organization in providing solutions to difficult issues associated with specific problems. Accomplishes daily operational tasks with no supervision. Majority of teamwork is on internal basis with subordinates, peers, and immediate supervisors and normally involves specific phases of a project or operation. Persuades others to a point of view. Time Span of Work: Projects and tasks covering short to mid- term deliverables or milestones. Progress of work measured monthly.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must-Have
  • Education and Experience: BS/BA in related field and 4+ years related experience in synthetic organic chemistry lab work; MS/MA in related field and 3+ years related experience in synthetic organic chemistry lab work; or PhD in synthetic organic chemistry. Significant experience with the following laboratory equipment/techniques: HPLC, GC, NMR, and TLC.


Nice-to-Have
  • Experience with the following laboratory equipment/techniques: simple distillations, vacuum distillations, mechanical stirred lab reactors, roto evaporators, handling pyrophoric materials, and solids filtering a drying.


PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

The position involves working in a laboratory/production environment, which may include standing for long periods of time and working with chemicals.

The position requires the ability to perform mathematical calculations including complex data analysis.

NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

The position may require colleagues to work off-hours, weekends and/or holidays to meet business or customer needs.

The position may involve some travel to support other sites.
