Job Details
Alkahest is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company targeting neurodegenerative and age-related diseases with transformative therapies derived from a deep understanding of the plasma proteome in aging and disease. Uniquely positioned to enhance quality of life in aging, we are pioneering science that is rapidly being translated to the clinic. We offer a competitive compensation and benefits package, opportunities for career growth and development, and a work environment that is collaborative, collegial, and fun.
The mass spectrometry research group of Alkahest is seeking a postdoctoral scientist. Our lab develops and applies cutting-edge bottom-up quantitative proteomics strategies to discover novel biomarkers from human plasma. To further this goal, we are interested in characterizing post-translational modifications in plasma proteins in the context of aging and disease. We are looking for a highly motivated and driven postdoctoral scientist to:
- Develop innovative proteomics screens to quantify post-translational modifications in plasma proteins
- Work with other lab members and collaborators to interrogate and validate new biomarkers
- Play an active role in driving the direction of their own project, with the overall goal of publishing in high-profile journals
Requirements:
- PhD degree within the last 2 years from an accredited college/university in a field related to mass spectrometry, biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, biomedical research or chemical biology
- Experience with operating mass spectrometers and/or HPLCs
- Experience in performing at least one major form of quantitative DDA or DIA proteomics screen.
- Experience with other biochemical and/or molecular techniques is an advantage
- Ability to work collaboratively with excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
Desirable Criteria:
- Proven ability to operate and maintain Thermo Orbitrap LC/MS systems
- Experience with TMT-labelling and label-free DIA quantitative proteomics
- Strong background in plasma biology
- Competence with popular mass spectrometry software (ie. Proteome Discoverer, MaxQuant, Spectronaut, Masspike, etc)
- Ability to code in R and python to further analyze proteomics data
