The American Chemistry Council (ACC), a national trade association representing the world’s leading chemical and plastics manufacturers, currently has an opportunity for a Director for its Regulatory and Technical Affairs division.  ACC represents its members on public policy issues; coordinates the industry’s research and testing programs; and administers Responsible Care®, the industry’s environment, health, safety and security performance improvement initiative. 

This position serves as a technical resource for the American Chemistry Council’s (ACC) risk assessment advocacy efforts.  The position has a particular focus on chemical assessment and exposure assessment.   The position reports directly to Senior Director in the Regulatory and Technical Affairs Division.

Other key duties and responsibilities of the position include preparing technical and policy materials to support ACC’s goals and objectives with particular attention to developing policies on hazard assessment and exposure assessment issues; assisting in the development and delivery of chemical management policy messaging, in coordination with other ACC staff; building and maintaining relationships with appropriate government representatives, and the scientific community; and monitoring, analyzes, and tracks emerging issues, developments and trends on science policy and chemical management to support ACC’s advocacy.

Required qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree and at least six years of experience in chemistry, the chemical industry, or related industries. Working knowledge of relevant chemical assessment regulations and programs at the state and federal level and the ability understand regulatory/legislative issues and their possible impact on the business of chemistry and industries that use the products of chemistry are a must. An advanced degree (MS, MA, MBA, JD) in relevant fields (e.g., basic sciences, law, environmental policy), experience with exposure assessment and the Toxic Substances Control Act and the understanding of environmental justice are highly preferred.
