Lawrence University of Wisconsin, a selective undergraduate liberal arts college and conservatory of music located in Appleton, Wisconsin, invites applications for a full-time tenure track (rank open) position of Mark Burstein Professor of Global and Public Health, beginning September 1, 2022.  We seek an excellent teacher and scholar who is passionate about working with undergraduates in a liberal arts setting while actively engaging in research.  We are open to candidates trained in a wide range of research areas and are particularly interested in candidates whose research activity is conducive to active participation by undergraduates.  We expect the successful candidate to play a significant leadership role in developing and implementing a planned minor in global and public health (GLPH) at Lawrence. By August 1, 2022, candidates must have a masters or higher-level degree from a public health program or school of public health, and a PhD or other appropriate terminal degree in a field that corresponds to or aligns with an academic department or program at Lawrence, which will become the faculty member’s home department. Teaching load is two courses per term for three ten-week terms a year, with approximately four courses contributing to GLPH and two to Lawrence’s First-Year Studies program and home department non-GLPH needs on a rotating basis.

Lawrence University of Wisconsin is committed to enhancing the diversity of its faculty and staff and the diversity of viewpoints and approaches that its faculty represents. We encourage applications from individuals who will help us create a more inclusive campus by: (1) further diversifying the faculty; (2) constructing or contributing to successful diversity-related initiatives, creative activity, or research; and/or (3) developing inclusive pedagogy to address the needs of a diverse student body, particularly as these pedagogies relate to antiracism.

Applicants should apply online at https://lawrence.peopleadmin.com. Please submit 1) a cover letter, 2) a curriculum vitae, 3) a research statement outlining your research goals and ways in which students could be involved 4) a teaching statement that includes the types of courses you would like to develop, and your philosophy of teaching and mentoring undergraduates, and 5) names and contact information for 3 references.  In the cover letter or in a separate document, candidates should address issues of diversity and inclusion in an academic setting and ways that you could contribute to these efforts at Lawrence University of Wisconsin.  This should include discussion of your ability and willingness to attract a diverse group of students to the study of GLPH at Lawrence and to support these students’ academic development and career exploration.

Members of the faculty work closely with undergraduates in a variety of settings, both outside and inside the classroom, including academic advising, research supervision, career mentoring, and other activities of special interest to individual faculty members.  Candidates are encouraged to read more about Lawrence and to address in their letters of application the ways in which they could contribute to Lawrence’s institutional mission and goals.
