Randolph-Macon College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Cellular Biology to begin Fall 2022.

The Randolph-Macon Biology Department is a growing and research-active community of nine tenured/tenure-track faculty with approximately 150 student majors and 30 student minors. Biochemistry, Nursing, and Behavioral Neuroscience students also take many of the Biology Department’s course offerings. Biology faculty are committed to delivering inquiry-driven science education and conducting research with undergraduate students. Research space, start-up funds, and funds for conference travel are available. The successful candidate will also be eligible to apply for generous internal research grants.

Major/Essential Functions:

We seek candidates who will incorporate active-learning in their courses, engage undergraduate students in their research program, provide effective mentoring to our students, and serve the department and the college. Primary teaching responsibilities will include Cell Biology, Introductory Biology courses, upper level courses in the successful candidate’s area of expertise, and courses that contribute to the general education curriculum. Candidates with the ability to teach Genetics, Developmental Biology, and/or Bioinformatics are particularly encouraged to apply.

Minimum Qualifications • Ph.D. in cellular biology or a related field • Commitment to teaching undergraduate students • Research program in cellular biology or a closely related field that will include undergraduates as collaborators

Preferred Qualifications

• Postdoctoral research training • Experience teaching Cell Biology as an instructor of record at the collegiate level • Experience teaching Genetics, Developmental Biology, and/or, Bioinformatics as an instructor of record at the collegiate level • Demonstrated effectiveness teaching undergraduates • Experience successfully implementing active-learning strategies to maximize student success in courses at the collegiate level • Research with the potential to engage undergraduate students • Evidence of advising/mentoring undergraduate students • Evidence of working effectively with people from diverse backgrounds to achieve shared goals • Evidence of success using pedagogical methods that enable students across racial, ethnic, and socio-economic groups to reach their maximum potential • Experience with cell culture or bioinformatics
