ROLE SUMMARY

This position is accountable for developing and delivering chemical engineering process technology in support of commercial Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) manufacturing. This position will focus on downstream fermentation and chemical processes, including production troubleshooting, support, and improvement. The incumbent will serve as the primary technical expert for the manufacturing methods, perform or direct scientific laboratory studies, and make recommendations to improve manufacturing reliability, cost, safety, compliance, and environmental performance. This role will facilitate the introduction of new processes into the site, and support in-sourcing and out-sourcing projects for supply chain optimization. The incumbent will work closely with the manufacturing plant, review procedures, review process performance data, and solve process problems as well as provide technical knowledge, expertise, and evaluation for other support functions.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Works effectively in a fast-paced, customer-oriented, laboratory environment to conceive, develop, and deliver process technology that supports commercial fermentation and chemical processes.
  • Recommends and conducts exploratory research to produce new knowledge and potential products; conceives, organizes, promotes, and executes ideas and plans to increase productivity and extend knowledge of the field.
  • Consistently applies advanced knowledge, principles, theories, concepts, and innovative solutions. Contributes new principles and concepts. Develops new applications based on professional principles and theories.
  • Works under consultative direction toward predetermined long-range goals and objectives. Assignments frequently self-identified and self-initiated.
  • Serves as organization spokesperson on advanced projects and programs. Advisor to management and customers on advanced studies and applications.


QUALIFICATIONS
  • BS/BA in related field and 19+ years related experience; MS/MA in related field and 17+ years related experience; or PhD in related field and 14+ years related experience.
  • Preference is given to applicants that have advanced teaming, communication, and leadership skills as well as a strong track record of solving complex problems with innovative solutions.
  • Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.


PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

The position involves working in a laboratory/production environment, which may include standing for long periods of time and working with chemicals.

The position requires the ability to gather, analyze, interpret, relate, and compare information from multiple sources and identify complex cause and effect relationships.

NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

The position may require colleagues to work off-hours, weekends and/or holidays to meet business or customer needs.

The position may involve some travel to support other sites.
