The Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing invites applications for a

Max Planck Research Group Leader (m/f/div)
(W2)
in Biology of Ageing

(job code 12-2021)

The Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing was founded in 2008 with the mission to unravel fundamental mechanisms of healthy ageing. It is part of a broad network of institutions in the Cologne-Bonn area dedicated to research on ageing and age-related disease, constituting a vibrant and collaborative environment. Equipped with state-of-the-art core facilities, the institute provides outstanding opportunities for its scientists. At the moment, we host employees from 40 different nations and 305 employees including guest scientists.

We seek a talented, dynamic, independent, and motivated scientist early in his/her career to establish a Max Planck Research Group at our Max Planck Institute in Cologne. The successful candidate will develop an independent research program using his/her own budget, which will fund research positions, consumables, and equipment. Candidates should have an outstanding scientific track record with clear evidence of leadership and perform cutting-edge research in one or more aspects of the biology of ageing in any system, including humans.

The initial appointment of the group leader is for five years with the possibility of extension (2 x 2 years) after international review. For more general information please see also: http://www.mpg.de/918399/MPRGL. The start date is envisioned for fall 2022.

Applications should include:

  • a cover letter explaining why you would like to join our Institute
  • your Curriculum Vitae including your publication list
  • a statement of scientific achievements
  • a two page summary of your future research plans
  • up to three of your most important papers
  • copies of essential certificates and documents

Upload your application as a single PDF file using our application website https://www.age.mpg.de/career-education/open-positions (quoting job code 12-2021). Please also arrange for three academic references to be sent as PDf files to references@age.mpg.de. The deadline for applications including references is December 2nd,  2021. Successful applicants should be prepared to join a selection symposium held on February 15th–16th, 2022 in Cologne, Germany. The first day will be designed to meet members of the institute in a more informal setting; the second day will feature the selection symposium. The plan is to hold the symposium in person, but may be held virtually if conditions of the pandemic are unfavorable.

The Max Planck Society endeavours to achieve gender equality and diversity, and therefore seeks to increase the number of women in those areas where they are underrepresented and explicitly encourages women to apply. Furthermore, the Max Planck Society is committed to increasing the number of employees with severe disabilities in its workforce. Applications from persons with severe disabilities are expressly desired.

Inquiries can be sent to the above-mentioned e-mail address. For further information about the Institute see www.age.mpg.de
