The Genomic Immunology group sits within the Immunology Research Unit and has a presence at our growing Cambridge, MA (US) site and at our R&D hub in Stevenage (UK). Our group strives to explore rich data landscape (23andMe, UK Biobank, FinnGen) to derive and identify crucial therapeutic target insights associated with diseases with unmet need across therapeutic areas, to build drug hypotheses, and to validate potential new therapeutic targets by integrating our groundbreaking functional genomics experimental platform. This approach maximizes the probability of delivering successful clinical candidates, and ultimately helping people to do more, feel better and live longer. Description: The Genomic Immunology research team in Cambridge, MA is seeking a self-motivated, energetic and creative cell and molecular biologist with critical and innovative thinking to take part in the development of novel therapeutics. This individual will work independently and/or in partnership with dynamic cross-functional project teams in a multidisciplinary matrixed environment to investigate the biology of novel targets using functional molecular genomic tools and to make significant and high-impact contributions in multiple GSK drug discovery programs. Responsibilities: Design, conduct and perform hands-on experimentation in human and rodent primary cells, cell lines and tissues using a wide range of molecular and cellular immunological techniques suitable for drug target identification and validation. Develop and optimize new methods and protocols and proactively incorporate new technology or techniques into practice with minimal supervision Analyze, interpret and present experimental results at various meetings to multi-disciplinary teams, project leaders and management and collaboratively plan experimental paths forward Generate study reports and maintain a detailed record of experiments in electronic lab notebooks in accordance with company policy Participate to the target triaging strategy in collaboration with multi-disciplinary groups When in charge of managing (a) team(s) of laboratory technicians, contribute to the professional development and wellbeing of the team, and manages its performance Share in responsibilities to support general lab functions Why you? Basic Qualifications: PhD in Immunology, Cell Biology or related fields with a track record of publications Postdoctoral training with 1+ years of experience working independently to design, conduct, and analyze experiments Hands-on experience in molecular biology techniques and proficiency in utilizing functional genomic editing tools (CRISPR-Cas, si/hRNA) Expertise in >10-multicolor flow-cytometry analysis for phenotypic screening and target ID/validation in cell lines or primary immune cells Preferred Qualifications: Cell culture: Isolation and sterile tissue culture of mammalian cell lines and immune cell subsets Cell-based assay development using primary rodent and human immune cells and immortalized cell lines Molecular biology including but not limited to nucleic acid extraction and quality control, qPCR, NanoString, CRISPR gene editing, Microarray , Next Generation Sequencing (e.g. single cell RNA-Seq) Multicolor Flow-cytometry analysis (set-up, acquisition, analysis and reporting) Protein detection (included but not limited to ELISA, Luminex, MSD, Western blotting) Previous drug discovery experience in a biopharmaceutical setting Flexibility, with the ability to prioritize multiple projects to meet timelines while maintaining attention to detail and high-performance standards. High degree of independence, proactivity, and a strong sense of accountability.
