Postdoctoral Scholar, Microbiology and Immunology
Dr. Mark D. Mannie at the Brody School of Medicine (Department of Microbiology and Immunology at East Carolina University) has an opening for a highly motivated postdoctoral scholar who will investigate the role of tolerogenic vaccines and regulatory T cells in murine models of autoimmunity. The candidate should hold a PhD degree in immunology or a closely-related field and should have at least 1 year of research experience in the area of Immunology. The candidate must be proficient in English, have excellent written and oral communication skills, and have strong interests in studying tolerogenic vaccines and rodent/ human regulatory T cells in autoimmune disease. Research will focus on experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis in mice and on in vitro human T cell culture systems. Techniques will include vector construction, derivation of protein expression systems, protein expression/ purification, cell culture experimentation, gene expression assays, derivation of continuous regulatory T cell lines, and flow cytometric analysis. The scholar will hone expertise in molecular biology, protein chemistry, cellular immunology, regulatory T cell biology, and vaccinology. The scholar will perform independent hypothesis-driven research and will seek postdoctoral/ career development awards.
