FULL-TIME, TENURE-TRACK ASSISTANT-PROFESSOR POSITION AVAILABLE AUGUST 2022

 

POSITION SUMMARY: The Biology Department at Regis University is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Biology with expertise in Ecology. The position’s rotating teaching responsibilities will include Introductory Biology, Introduction to Environmental Science, Ecology, an interdisciplinary writing-intensive course in the Regis College Core Curriculum, and may also include an upper-division course in the successful applicant’s area of expertise. In addition, faculty members are expected to advise students and participate in the academic governance of the department, college, and university. This position will also contribute to the M.S. in Environmental Biology program by teaching graduate courses, participating in program meetings, coordinating with other faculty members in the program, reviewing student non-thesis projects, and advising students preparing for careers in environmental biology. The successful candidate should include inquiry in any laboratories taught; participate in pedagogical and curricular development in the program, department, and college; and maintain active research that involves undergraduate students. ABOUT REGIS UNIVERSITY: Regis University is a Jesuit, Catholic liberal-arts university in Denver, Colorado, consisting of three colleges: Regis College, The Rueckert-Hartman College for Health Professions, and The Anderson College of Business and Computing. The biology department is situated in Regis College, which is home to most of the university’s on-campus programs in the liberal arts and sciences for full-time, traditional students.

In Fall 2020 there were 1282 traditional, undergraduate students (lower than usual due to COVID-19) most of whom were full-time students and 1199 students in non-traditional and graduate programs in all the units of Regis College most of whom were part-time students. Among all Regis College traditional, undergraduate students in Fall 2020 47% were students of color and 33% were Latinx students.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS & PREFERENCES: A Ph.D. in Biology, Environmental Science, Ecology, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, or equivalent field awarded by August 1, 2022 and research experience in ecology. The candidate must be enthusiastic about collaborative teaching and working with faculty, staff, and students. Preference will be given to candidates with relevant collegiate teaching experience, demonstrated teaching excellence, a commitment to teaching and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds, and research interests that diversify existing departmental expertise. Many areas would diversify the expertise of the Biology Department faculty, but preference will be given to applicants whose research involves plants.
