Position Description

The Department of Bioengineering at Rice University, located in Houston, TX, seeks applications for two tenure-track faculty positions with a start date of July 2022: one position in all areas of bioengineering and one in the area of computational/theoretical bioengineering, subject to University approval.

For the first tenure-track Assistant Professor position, we particularly encourage candidates in immuno-engineering, biomedical imaging, infectious diseases and cancer research to apply. However, candidates from all areas of bioengineering will be considered. Outstanding candidates at higher rank (Associate or Full Professor) may also be considered.

For the computational bioengineering tenure-track Assistant Professor position, we seek candidates with expertise in computational and/or theoretical modelling of biological systems. Particular areas of interest are biomolecular/protein engineering, cancer research, and systems biology. Candidates seeking to integrate computational and experimental approaches are also encouraged to apply. Outstanding candidates at higher rank may be considered.

Faculty members are expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, perform research in their specialized area, and contribute to university service. Applicants should demonstrate excellence in scholarship, teaching, and collegial service. Successful candidates will be required to have a strong commitment to teaching, advising, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students from diverse backgrounds. Candidates will be expected to establish a strong research program supported by extramural funding. Rice offers an outstanding environment for research at the interface of bioengineering, biology and medicine, with strong collaborations with the adjacent Texas Medical Center.

We seek greater representation of women, minorities, people with disabilities, and veterans in disciplines in which they have historically been underrepresented; to attract international students from a wider range of countries and backgrounds; to accelerate progress in building a faculty and staff who are diverse in background and thought; and an inclusive environment that fosters interaction and understanding within our diverse community.

Requirements

All candidates must have a PhD degree in bioengineering or a related field and professional experience consistent with the position rank.

Application Materials and Deadline

Review of applications will commence November 1st, and candidates are encouraged to apply early in order to be given full consideration. Applications will continue to be accepted until the position is filled. To apply, please submit the following materials: (1) cover letter, (2) curriculum vitae, (3) research statement (up to 5 pages), (4) statement of teaching philosophy (up to 2 pages), and (5) statement of past and planned contributions to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion (up to 2 pages) to the job posting (please see below).  In addition, candidates will be asked to provide the names and contact information for 3-5 references, who will solicited for letters of recommendation at the time of application.
