The Research Assistant I provides technical assistance in carrying out various research projects.

KEY FUNCTIONS

Conducts experiments and carries out research projects.
  • Conducts experiments and research projects in the various areas of molecular biology, cancer biology, and other biomedical or related scientific fields.
  • Extracts DNA, RNA and protein from a variety of sources.
  • Generates real-time PCR data with RNAs from cancer cell lines, human tissues for validation of biomarkers for breast cancer.

Operates laboratory apparatus and equipment.
  • Utilizes laboratory equipment to carry out experiments.
  • May place calls for repairs, as necessary, and place orders using the institution's purchasing system.

Data gathering and analysis
  • Records and evaluates data in accordance with methods requested.

General Laboratory Support
  • Assists with the following:
    • Tissue culture cell lines in accordance with laboratory procedures.
    • Preparation of sterile media and solutions.
    • Preparing cells for cryogenic storage.
    • Maintaining a liquid nitrogen freezer e-log and chemicals list.
    • Monitoring orders and shelf tissue culture supplies to ensure efficient functioning.


Education

Required: Bachelor's degree, major course work in one of the basic sciences.

Required: No experience.
