We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Senior Research Associate to join the flow cytometry team in the immuno-oncology group. The candidate will oversee the Gilead Flow core and design/execute flow-based assays that improve our understanding of disease pathobiology serve as an expert to troubleshoot FACS based assay across therapeutic areas. S/he will be also expected to share his/her flow cytometry expertise with users from other groups and contribute to well-functioning of the flow cytometry laboratory. Direct experience in flow cytometry and standard immunological assays is essential.

Key responsibilities:
  • Day to Day Flow core Management (Maintain and oversee instrument performance, serve as point contact with field engineers, Onboard new FACS users, Troubleshoot technical and biological issues, Operate the cell sorter, Ensure FACS users compliance to EHS standard, Oversees the service contracts and supplies to Flow Core)
  • Design and optimize key flow cytometry panels to be shared across Oncology and therapeutic areas
  • Align Gilead instrumentation and needs (Work with key FACS users to identify and evaluate new instrumentation, Coordinate the installation, and user training on new instrumentation
  • Consulting / workshops (Consult with users for technical and biological questions, Organize and present monthly workshop (Panel design, instrumentation troubleshooting)
  • Work with IT (Administration of FlowJo site license, Work with IT to enhance access to computational resources)

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

  • Interpret data, and draw conclusions in a fully independent manner.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and optimize assays as needed; identifying and applying novel techniques or protocols from reports in the scientific literature
  • Communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, working cross-functionally in a highly collaborative team environment
  • Design and optimize complex flow cytometry assays
  • Think critically and work resourcefully to resolve problems
  • Master\'s degree and 2-4 years of experience or Bachelor\'s degree and 4-6 years of experience in pharmaceutical sciences, cell biology, molecular biology, or biochemistry in industry or academia.
  • Technical expertise in performing immuno assays (primary cell isolation and culture, in vitro proliferation, ELISA)
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and technical) and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Experience with flow cytometry in a Flow Core lab setting preferred
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with basic data analysis programs (Flow Jo, Excel, Graphpad Prism, etc.)
