The Biological Sciences Program at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMUQ) is seeking a teaching-track faculty at the assistant teaching professor level. While this is an entry level position, Carnegie Mellon (CMU) offers teaching appointments with multi-year contracts and promotion opportunities. The successful candidate will be developing and teaching core and elective Biology courses to undergraduate students at the Qatar campus. It is expected that the candidate uses their research interest(s) to engage undergraduate students in research-based courses.

The Biological Sciences Program is committed to diversity in research, education, and service. The successful candidate’s research and educational background can be in any Biological Sciences area; however, emphasis will be on current departmental strengths.

Candidates should have completed a PhD degree by the time of employment. Teaching experience is required while postdoctoral experience is highly desirable.

The position offers competitive salaries, travel and housing allowances and other benefit packages, which may include attractive research and professional development support. A reasonable teaching load allows time for quality teaching, research and close involvement with students, faculty and the local business and educational community.

Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar is a branch campus that operates in concert with several other American and European branch campuses under the umbrella of the Qatar Foundation’s Education City. The branch campus closely follows the admissions requirements and English language curriculum of the home campus, which awards all degrees. The several thousand students in Education City students are a broad mix of nationalities, but primarily from the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia. CMUQ’s faculty is a mix of professionals hired specifically to the campus and seconded faculty from the main campus. CMUQ’s primary focus is undergraduate education in Business Administration, Biological Sciences, Computer Science and Information Systems.

Carnegie Mellon University is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to increasing the diversity of its community on a range of intellectual and cultural dimensions. Carnegie Mellon welcomes faculty applicants who will contribute to this diversity through their research, teaching, and service, including women, members of minority groups, protected veterans, individuals with disabilities, and others who would contribute in different ways.

Applications, including a cover letter, a curriculum vitae (including publication list), a teaching statement (outlining the candidate’s teaching philosophy and experience), a research statement (outlining how the candidate’s research will be tailored to undergraduate students), a diversity statement (outlining how the candidate has contributed to, or plan to contribute to, diversity, inclusion, and equity), any additional supporting documentation that may include representative professional or scholarly work, and at least three individuals who have been asked by the candidate to upload confidential letters of reference.

Official graduate academic transcripts will be required by the time of appointment. Review of applications will begin immediately. For full consideration, applications must be received no later than November 1st, 2021.
