SUMMARY

The primary role of the Senior Research Programmer is to design, develop, execute, and document new complex computer software and information management systems specifically focused on advanced analysis of biomedical imaging studies in the Department of Cancer Systems Imaging. This role also includes analyzing, testing and recommending existing software products for biomedical image analysis, and the development and integration of digital information management systems for biomedical imaging studies. The Senior Research Programmer will work closely with institutional information systems personnel to ensure operating system software, configuration and system integration is maintained.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Image Analysis Research Utilize advanced computational methods that analyze imaging results for biomedical applications that assess chemical and biochemical samples; small animal models of cancer and tissue samples. Organize and standardize the data transfer and archival processes and adjust and streamline the processes as needed. Design the analyses methods, test the analyses methods and validate the outcome of the analysis methods. Optimize the processing of high volumes of imaging data.

Image Analysis Applications Collaborate in cancer imaging research studies, including image acquisitions of chemical and biochemical samples; small animal models of cancer; patients who have cancer and particulate in esearch studies; and other models of cancer and tissue samples. Designs, executes and documents complex computer software. Participate in optimizing the image acquisition methods especially to coordinate and synergize the image acquisitions and analyses. Assist the PI and other investigators as well as other research team members to interpret the results of the image analyses. Provide progress reports to the PI regarding image processing and analyses that support team projects.

Information Management Systems Constructs and monitors data transfer and messaging, including message acknowledgment, authentication, encryption, concurrent parsing of data and data storage. Analyzes, tests and recommends software products. Organize and standardize the data transfer and archival processes and adjust and streamline the processes as needed. Work closely with institutional information systems personnel to ensure operating system software in specialized research environments are configured and optimized accurately so that system integration is maintained.

Imaging Methodology Develop statistical and graphic methods to compare imaging methodologies. Construct and modify web-based information sources. Contribute to facilitating signal processing, image processing utilizing advanced computational methods for biomedical imaging research. Review imaging software packages for usage in the research program to produce optimal images for the research and its collaborators. Train group members to use the software. Prepare and test training documentation to facilitate the use of image analysis methods developed by the research group. Develop similar didactic guides.

Required Education: Bachelor's degree in a computer science field.

Preferred Education: Master's Level Degree

Required Experience; Five years of related experience.

Preferred Certification: Programming Languages

Preferred Experience: Experience with Matlab, Python, and other programming languages is preferred. Experiences with multiple software libraries and software applications are also preferred. Experience with preparation and maintenance of FDA regulated software and documentation is also preferred.
