About KIIDD

The Kobilka Institute of Innovative Drug Discovery (“KIIDD” hereafter) is an independent and non-profit state-of-the-art biomedical research institution founded by Prof. Brian Kobilka in 2017. The KIIDD will utilize comprehensive and cross-disciplinary tools to empower its talented scientists to explore new pathways to drug discoveries in several therapeutic areas. Everyone at KIIDD shares the same value that the best discoveries will originate from bringing diverse ideas, approaches, and people together to address scientific challenges in creative ways. The KIIDD is equipped with cutting-edge research resources and core facilities including a world-class CryoEM center with two 300kV Krios G3i.

Brian Kobilka is an American physiologist and the 2012 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry for seminal discoveries that reveal the inner workings of an important family G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). A primary focus of KIIDD will be GPCRs and other membrane proteins, and the research efforts will be undertaken by diverse research groups in the fields of Biochemistry, Biophysics, Structural Biology, Cell Biology, Chemistry, Computational Biology and Pharmacology. The long-term goal of the Institute is to serve as a bridge and platform to translate early drug discoveries into new therapeutics targeting GPCRs and other important disease-related protein targets. The KIIDD is physically located and affiliated at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen), which is greatly supported by the Shenzhen Municipal Government, Longgang District Government and CUHKSZ. To be a highly influential drug discovery center in south China and worldwide, the KIIDD is actively recruiting talented scientists in different areas and levels.

General Qualifications

Applicants should have a doctoral degree in biology, chemistry, pharmacy, medicine, or other relevant fields. Postdoctoral experience is required for a junior PI position (Tenure-track Assistant Professor level). Applicants for senior PI positions (Associate and Full Professor level) are expected to have a demonstrated publication and funding record as a leading scientist. Positions will remain open until filled. 

Salary and Fringe Benefits

Salary will be comparable and competitive to international standards. Qualified candidates will receive lab space, office space and access to state-of-the-art core facilities. Appointments will be made under the establishment of CUHK-Shenzhen, and employee benefits will be provided according to the relevant labor laws of Mainland China as well as CUHK-Shenzhen regulations. Assistance will be provided in applying for national and regional talent awards and subsides. For international staff, we provide assistance when applying for work permit, residence permit and foreign tax preference.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen officially announced the establishment of the School of Life and Health Sciences on November 14th, 2018, which is the fourth school of CUHK-Shenzhen proceeded by the School of Management and Economics (SME), the School of Sciences and Engineering (SSE), and the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS), offering educational programs from baccalaureate to graduate degrees.

Inheriting the excellent academic traditions and rigorous academic spirit of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, established upon the research foundations of the three Nobel Prize Research Institutes, aiming at the frontiers and long-term goals of the disciplines, the School of Life and Health Sciences shall offer undergraduate, master's and doctoral degrees. The Academic Board of the Chinese University of Hong Kong takes charge of the approval and supervision of degree programs, guiding and managing teaching and teaching-related matters, and supervising the level of CUHK-Shenzhen degree qualification. CUHK-Shenzhen graduates are awarded degree certificates by the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Currently, the School of Life and Health Sciences offers four undergraduate programs in Bioinformatics, Biomedical Science and Engineering, Pharmaceutical Science and Biological Sciences, and one MPhil-PhD Program in Biological Sciences. Newly added program in 2022 includes one MSc Program in Bioinformatics (jointly offered with School of Data Science).
