Rice University seeks a faculty member in the Bioengineering department at the assistant professor level, starting as early as July 1, 2022, in the area of synthetic biology. Successful candidates will lead a dynamic, innovative, and independent research program supported by external funding, and they will excel in teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, while embracing and contributing to Rice’s culture of diversity and inclusive excellence.

Candidates whose research program synergizes with and extends current synthetic biology research at Rice are of particular interest. Examples of such areas include, but are not limited to engineering cells to produce chemicals or materials, engineering cellular ecosystems in situ, genome-scale engineering, or engineering cells for therapeutic applications.

To apply, please submit the following materials: (1) cover letter, including the names and contact information for three references, (2) curriculum vitae, (3) research statement - 3 pages, (4) teaching philosophy statement - 1 page, and (5) diversity statement - 1 page to the job posting (http://apply.interfolio.com/92898). Application review will commence no later than October 1, 2021 and continue until the position is filled.

Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent degree and outstanding potential in research and teaching. We particularly encourage applications from women, members of historically underrepresented groups, and others with diverse cultural experiences and demonstrated achievements in and commitment to mentoring and advising members of a diverse student population.
