The Department of Biochemistry at the University of Utah (https://medicine.utah.edu/biochemistry) invites applicants for a tenure-track faculty position in all areas of biochemistry, cell, and molecular biology, broadly defined. We particularly encourage applications from candidates interested in supporting diversity and inclusion within our research community. Applications at all ranks (Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor) will be considered.    Job Summary Successful candidates will join a vibrant, diverse, and growing research community with a strong commitment to building an inclusive research and teaching environment. The Department of Biochemistry is located on the Utah Health Sciences Campus and is currently comprised of 21 tenure-track faculty, 11 of whom have been hired as part of a recent expansion over the past eight years. Areas of research expertise amongst our faculty are broad, and range from structural, chemical, and cell biology, to metabolism, RNA biochemistry and genetics. Our faculty benefit from a tight-knit, supportive and collaborative research environment within the Department and across the University of Utah. Successful candidates will be assigned a dedicated senior faculty mentor, provided with extensive grant writing support, and have access to state-of the art research facilities and a talented and diverse pool of PhD students from the University of Utah’s Bioscience PhD programs. Over 25% of our incoming Bioscience PhD students over the past five years have come from underrepresented backgrounds, and the Department of Biochemistry is actively involved in creating sources of support and inclusion for this community (https://medicine.utah.edu/biochemistry/diversity/).    Candidates will be expected to lead a strong externally funded research program, contribute to PhD and medical student education and provide service and leadership to the University and their scientific field. The University of Utah is committed to enhancing inclusivity and equity at all career levels, and it is expected that successful candidates will share these important values.    How to apply Please apply online at: https://utah.peopleadmin.com/postings/121986 and upload a cover letter with contact information for 3 references, current CV, a 3-page Research Statement (3-pages max), a statement describing your previous experience working to advance diversity, equity and inclusion, as well as your future plans to continue this work (1-page max), and an anonymous research summary describing your previous accomplishments and future plans (1-page max, please do not include personal or identifying information). Reference letters will be automatically solicited upon application processing. To help reduce bias in applicant evaluation, applications will be initially analyzed based on the 1-page anonymous research summary and 1-page description of past and potential contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion. After this initial evaluation, successful applicants will be further assessed by the 3-page Research Statement, CV, and Reference Letters. General questions related to this advertisement can be directed to Katie Brough at katie.brough@biochem.utah.edu. This position has no patient contact.   Starting dates are flexible. Applications will be reviewed as they are received beginning October 18, 2021. Position will remain open until filled.
