The Department of Chemistry at Virginia Tech invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in polymer chemistry (physical or synthetic) with an intended start date of Fall 2022 (posting #517191). Candidates with a research emphasis in any area of contemporary polymer chemistry (broadly defined) are encouraged to apply.  This position offers an exemplary departmental culture of collegial partnership dedicated to empowering the academic success of junior faculty as independent scholars and internationally recognized leaders. In addition, this position offers extensive collaborative opportunities within a university-wide network of researchers in the Macromolecules Innovation Institute engaged in cutting-edge research in areas spanning energy and the environment, sustainable polymers, functional polymer architectures, polymers in biology and medicine, engineering polymers, nanostructured materials and interfaces, among others.

The successful candidate must establish an independent, innovative, and internationally recognized research program and be an effective teacher in graduate and undergraduate courses. A Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related field is required; the degree is required at the time of appointment. Occasional travel to attend professional meeting and conference are required, and University policy requires a criminal background check.
