Kiel University aims to attract more qualified women to professorships.

The Department of Internal Medicine II - Haematology, Oncology in the Faculty of Medicine of Kiel University invites applications for a

W 3-Professorship in Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Immunotherapy

to start at the earliest possible time.

The future occupant of this position is expected to represent the field of stem cell transplantation and innovative cell therapy in research and teaching, as well as in patient care.

They should lead all areas of the field of stem cell transplantation and cell therapy and develop them from a cross-regional centre into a Comprehensive Center for Cellular Immunotherapy. The future occupant of the position will be expected to establish CAR-T cell therapy and strengthen it with clinical trials and scientific projects. Leadership experience (head of a transplantation unit), experience with certification processes (JACIE accredited stem cell transplantation centre) and a clinical-scientific focus in the field of cellular immunotherapy are advantageous. There is the opportunity to be involved in shaping the production area for stem cell and T-cell products in clinical and scientific application. Evidence of the successful acquisition of peer-reviewed third party funds and the leadership and performance of clinical trials, as well as early Phase I and IIT studies in the field of cellular immunotherapy will be considered as significant.

The professorship is associated with a leading role in the field of stem cell transplantation and cell therapy and will be integrated into the II Department of Medicine with the focus areas of haematology and oncology at the University Medical Centre Schleswig-Holstein at the Campus Kiel, whose excellent surroundings are particularly characterised by the Cluster of Excellence PMI (Precision Medicine in Chronic Inflammation) and the UCCSH (University Cancer Center Schleswig-Holstein). The individual to be appointed will cooperate closely with the Director of the II Department of Medicine to perform duties in patient care, research and the curricular education of students. The field of stem cell transplantation and the CAR-T cell platform are to be integrated into the UCCSH at national level, and further expanded internationally at clinical and scientific level.

We expect active involvement by the future occupant of the position in the Faculty’s priority research area “Digital Medicine: Recognizing – Understanding – Curing”, with its profile areas of inflammation, oncology and neurosciences.

Candidates must have specialist medical certification in internal medicine with the additional designation for haematology and internal oncology.

Please also refer to the appointment requirements in Section 61 of the Schleswig-Holstein Higher Education Act. More information can be found on the following homepage: www.berufungen.uni-kiel.de

The Schleswig-Holstein Higher Education Act (HSG) obliges the Faculty of Medicine at Kiel University and Lübeck Medical School at the University of Lübeck to work closely together with the University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH) to form and coordinate priority research areas. The state expects clinics, institutes and newly appointed scientists to work together in this sense.

Kiel University aims to increase the proportion of female scientists in research and teaching and thus requests women with the necessary qualifications to submit an application. Women with equal aptitude, competence and qualification will be treated preferentially.

The university promotes the employment of severely disabled persons. Therefore, severely disabled applicants with the required aptitude will be treated preferentially.

We appreciate applications from people with a migrant background. We ask you not to provide photos, as we expressly dispense with their submission.

We would like to inform you that candidates who are invited to a job interview may be asked to conduct this as a video conference on account of the necessary measures resulting from the coronavirus pandemic. The trial presentations are planned for 27.10.2021, and we ask candidates to reserve this date as a precautionary measure since the invitations will be issued on short notice.

Applications containing the usual documents (CV, record of papers, list of lectures, copies of academic certificates) are to be sent to Professor Dr. med. Joachim Thiery, Dekan der Medizinischen Fakultät der Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel, Olshausenstraße 40, D-24098 Kiel, and including home address, work address, telephone number and email address, by 07.10.2021
