Call for applications for Researcher (indefinite-term employment) position, in RIKEN, Japan

RIKEN invites applications for the position of Researcher (indefinite -term employment position) in the following research area.

Star formation is one of the most fundamental structure-formation processes in the universe. By use of the state-of-the-art radio telescopes including ALMA, we are investigating chemical evolution along star and planet formation.  At the same time, we are also revealing its formation mechanism by full use of chemical tools.  When and how is a disk structure formed around a protostar, how is it evolved into a protoplanetary disk and eventually to a planetary system, and how chemical composition changes along them? Those are essential questions deeply related to the origin of the Solar system and even the life. Toward full understanding of the chemical evolution, we are also conducting related laboratory experiment; spectroscopy of molecules in astronomical interests in the millimeter and submillimeter regimes.

Job Description
The successful candidate is expected to lead researches on spectroscopy of molecules in astronomical interests in the millimeter and submillimeter regimes.  By using the spectroscopic knowledge, she/he is also expected to enhance her/his studies to understand molecular formation in interstellar clouds as well as protoplanetary-disk forming region.  Depending on necessity, the successful candidate may also start any other study related to the theme.  Successful candidate is also expected to be involved in the group management to help the PI and takes charge of various tasks in the group.

1) Applicants must have good communication skills and be able to engage in the research in a coordinated manner (should be a good team player).
2) Applicants must be comfortable with English professionally for scientific discussion (Japanese language skills are welcome but not mandatory).
3) Publications particularly on the above theme are not mandatory.  On the other hand, applicants must have a wide scope (not only limited to molecular spectroscopy), fundamental knowledge of the high-resolution molecular spectroscopy, and most importantly a strong interest to pursue the research theme: spectroscopy of molecules in astronomical interests and its application to astrochemistry.

Since it is interdisciplinary field, young researchers, who are courageous enough to jump into new fields, are welcome.
