The Inflammation department at Gilead Sciences is seeking an experienced and highly motivated scientist to lead ongoing and new efforts in the discovery and development of therapeutic agents in autoimmune diseases including inflammatory bowel diseases and rheumatoid diseases. As a member of a cross-functional team, the successful candidate will lead discovery and translational research teams aimed at discovering, identifying and characterizing novel therapeutic pathways and targets for inflammatory and autoimmune diseases.

  • Lead a group of scientists and advance the discovery and translational research aimed at dissecting and understanding disease pathogenesis in autoimmunity, using human genetic and multiomic data to identify novel therapeutic targets, developing and characterizing clinical drug candidate, validating therapeutic benefits in preclinical models and characterizing pharmacological properties, and researching diagnostic biomarkers.

  • Collaborate with other scientists in the department to develop therapeutic strategies for various diseases and establish discovery platforms and technologies. Interface with cross-functional subject matter experts, project teams, and a variety of external collaborators, vendors and network of consultants to advance projects.

  • Evaluate external opportunities in autoimmune and inflammatory diseases as part of a cross-functional team.

  • Hire and build a team with strong motivation, deep scientific insights, and stellar execution capability. Mentor scientists in their career development.

  • File patents and make contributions to scientific literature and conferences through publication and presentation of research results.

    Knowledge and Skills:

  • With superior expertise and knowledge in immunology and autoimmune diseases as demonstrated by high impact publications in the field and/or by track-recorded experience in advancement of innovative therapies from discovering to clinical trials.

  • Broad understanding of small molecule and/or biologics drug discovery and early and late stage development and familiarity with regulatory filings a plus

  • Previous leadership experience. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required

    Experience:
    • PhD and postdoctoral training with minimal 10-year scientific research in immunology and/or autoimmune diseases. More than 7 years independent/leadership research experience as exemplified as a PI in academia or lab head in industry.
    • Demonstrated expertise and scientific achievement in immunology and autoimmune diseases and/or other related fields.
    • Need to be an independent, self-driven, highly flexible, results oriented scientist who enjoys working in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
