Position Summary

A Research Associate II position is available in the Gene Editing and Viral Vector Core (GEVVC) of the Shared Resource Department for the Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope.

The Gene Editing and Viral Vector Core (GEVVC) serves as a supporting facility for City of Hope's principal investigators, whose primary research and/or clinical activities are to genetically manipulate human and mouse genomes for basic research and therapeutic disease treatment. The missions include: i) the use of gene editing to modify the genome of cultured human/mouse cell lines and primary cells, including embryonic stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells; ii) production of infectious lentiviral and retroviral vectors for gene delivery into culture cells; iii) production of adeno-viral (AV) and adeno-associated viral (AAV) vectors for direct gene delivery into animal in vivo; iv) Technical support for the Molecular Biology related research projects.

Major duties include performing molecular cloning, PCR, CRISPR mediated genetic modification, maintenance and expansion of stem cells and cancer cell lines, and viral production. Therefore, experience in both basic tissue culture and viral production related experience are required. In addition, with strong knowledge in, such as molecular biology, molecular genetics, genomics, and must include a documented ability to proficiently execute routine laboratory techniques.

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:
  • A Bachelor's degree with 2 years of experience or Master's with 1 year of experience is required
  • Must be highly motivated with excellent organization and communication skills
  • Candidates with skills in cell culture and viral production related experience are required. In addition, the experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, stem cells and gene editing related experience is preferred.
