The Department of Biochemistry & Cellular and Molecular Biology (BCMB) at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the area of plant biology. Applications for Assistant, Associate or Full Professor will be considered. We are particularly interested in a colleague who uses experimental approaches to address fundamental questions about plants or other photosynthetic organisms from the molecular to the organismal level.

The successful candidate should address questions that complement existing strengths in the department. Besides seven active and collaborative groups in plant and microbial biology, the BCMB department (https://bcmb.utk.edu) has research programs in molecular and developmental genetics, cell biology, and experimental and computational biochemistry and biophysics. Plant science in the Knoxville area is represented by over 60 research groups including in the UT Institute of Agriculture and the nearby Oak Ridge National Laboratory. These groups are tied together by the Tennessee Plant Research Center. Together, the UT and ORNL campuses harbor a unique combination of resources in supercomputing, neutron science (Spallation Neutron Source), and mathematical biology (National Institute for Mathematical and Biological Synthesis).

To be considered, a PhD or equivalent degree in a relevant field as well as postdoctoral experience are required, including evidence of high quality research. Regardless of rank, the successful candidate is expected to establish or continue an innovative, externally funded research program and contribute to the departmental teaching mission at the undergraduate and graduate levels. For consideration beyond the Assistant Professor level, candidates should demonstrate a solid track record of external research funding as well as national and international recognition in their field. We are seeking candidates who have the ability to contribute to the diversity and intercultural goals of the University. We strongly encourage applications from members of underrepresented groups. The position will start as early as August 1, 2022.

Applicants should submit a single pdf file containing the CV with list of publications, a 2-3 page statement of research plans, a brief statement of teaching interests and philosophy, and a cover letter that includes a brief statement of the applicant’s experience or goals regarding diversity and inclusion. Applicants should also provide a list of three professional references who will be contacted for recommendation letters after initial preselection. Applications are accepted through Interfolio at http://apply.interfolio.com/93043. Questions about the position may be directed to Albrecht von Arnim at vonarnim@utk.edu. Review of applications will begin October 10, 2021 and will continue until the position is filled.

The University of Tennessee is an EEO/AA/Title VI/Title IX/Section 504/ADA/ADEA institution in the provision of its education and employment programs and services. All qualified applicants will receive equal consideration for employment and admission without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, sex, pregnancy, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, physical or mental disability, genetic information, veteran status, and parental status.
