Biochemistry and Biophysics Faculty at The University of Chicago

The University of Chicago: Biological Sciences Division: Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology

Position Description

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Chicago seeks faculty candidates for appointment at the tenure-track assistant professor level.  We invite applications from scientists studying macromolecular dynamics and structure, mechanisms of molecular function and related areas. Appropriate topics include: proteins; nucleic acids and their assemblies; membrane proteins; cellular processes in prokaryotes and eukaryotes (for example, proteostasis, condensates and immunology); biomolecular design; chemical biology, and computational analysis, among others.

The University is a vibrant center of scientific discovery and innovation with many opportunities for multidisciplinary collaboration. The Biological Sciences Division, the Physical Sciences Division, the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering, and the University of Chicago Medical Center are all contained within one compact campus in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood. Appointees have access to state-of-the-art core facilities, including those dedicated to cyroEM & ET, cutting-edge next generation sequencing and genomics, microscopy and flow cytometry, and an endowed, world-class plant growth facility. Appointees will work with outstanding colleagues and graduate students associated with numerous degree-granting programs at the University and with our affiliates, Argonne National Laboratory and the Marine Biological Laboratory at Woods Hole.

Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must have a doctoral degree or equivalent. To be considered, those interested must apply through the University of Chicago’s Academic Recruitment job board, which uses Interfolio to accept applications: http://apply.interfolio.com/91097. Applicants must upload a cover letter, a CV including bibliography, a research plan, a teaching statement [which may also include the candidate’s experience in teaching diverse students, if applicable (The University’s Diversity Statement can be found at https://provost.uchicago.edu/statements-diversity)], and up to three publications or preprints.  Three letters of reference must be received via Interfolio before applications will be evaluated. Review of applications will begin October 5, 2021, and end when the positions are filled.
