Assistant Professor of Physical Chemistry (Tenure-Track)

The Department of Chemistry at Oakland University invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in any area of experimental Physical Chemistry to start in August 2022.

A successful candidate will establish an externally funded research program involving undergraduate and graduate students and excel in teaching introductory chemistry, Physical Chemistry I and II, Physical Chemistry Laboratory, and graduate-level (M.S./Ph.D.) courses. The new hire will discharge service duties and contribute to the university’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Qualifications:

Qualified candidates should have a Ph.D. in physical chemistry, broadly defined, or a closely related field. Postdoctoral or equivalent experience in these fields is strongly preferred.

Department Summary:

The Department of Chemistry at Oakland University is well-equipped with advanced instrumentation for chemical research, including nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), time-of-flight (LC-TOF-MS) and gas chromatography mass spectrometers (GC-MS), inductively coupled plasma optical emission (ICP-OES), infrared (IR), UV-visible, and fluorescence spectrometers. Recent acquisitions include high-performance electron spin resonance (ESR), spinning disk laser confocal microscope, and droplet digital polymerase chain reaction (ddPCR) instrument. Additionally, Oakland has new high-performance computing facilities.
