Exceptional Opportunity

The Department of Medicine is launching an unprecedented recruitment and hiring initiative for rising star research faculty who will significantly expand our already impressive research enterprise. These positions are over and above our normal hiring patterns, with preference given to mid-career investigators with a sustained track record of funded research.  Emory has dedicated substantial resources – financial investment, cutting edge research space and exceptional colleagues – for these researchers who will help shape discovery on their upward trajectory.

With the goal of expanding innovative, interdisciplinary research and scholarship aimed at improving human health, the Department seeks to strategically strengthen research in cross-cutting scientific disciplines, including, but not limited to, inflammation and immunology, the microbiome, metagenomics and metabolomics, data sciences, AI/machine learning, health disparities and outcomes science, developmental biology, and aging.  We are particularly interested in programs that advance our understanding of cardiovascular disease, cancer, infectious diseases and immunological conditions.  Solving complex problems requires a community of diverse points of view.   The more diversity we have in our team, the more unique perspectives we offer to how we approach excellence in healthcare and research.

We seek exceptional candidates in these broadly defined areas of medicine who will enhance our research strengths in alignment with the priorities of the School of Medicine to promote innovation and entrepreneurship, establish Emory as an eminent research institution, and expand our collaborations with our distinguished partner institutions such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Atlanta Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Georgia Institute of Technology, Morehouse School of Medicine, Grady Memorial Hospital, the University of Georgia and numerous international partners.

Emory and Atlanta

Emory sits at the nexus of Atlanta—six miles from downtown, a 15-minute ride to Buckhead, a center of nightlife and shopping, and five miles to Midtown, where the expansive Piedmont Park as well as the city’s cultural center lies. We’re located in the stately, historic neighborhood of Druid Hills, with the small-town charm of Decatur and the kitschy, quirky fun of Little Five Points a quick shuttle or car ride away. You’ll find the neighborhoods of Atlanta diverse, welcoming, and never dull.

An ideal location in terms of weather, transportation, culture and dining, Atlanta’s diverse offerings have something to appeal to everyone. It’s the perfect city in which to unwind—relaxing in one of its many small or large parks, biking or walking along the BeltLine, taking in professional sports or arts offerings, and sampling the many types of cuisine found here. A 30-minute ride leads to Atlanta’s airport—the world’s busiest—from which you can travel to anywhere in the world.

Qualified candidates must have an MD, PhD or MD/PhD with a strong record of academic research accomplishments and scholarship, a demonstrated capacity to secure external funding, and the ability to develop and lead a collaborative, interdisciplinary program.  Basic scientists, clinical researchers and health services researchers are encouraged to apply.  Preference will be given to candidates with interdisciplinary research.  Per Emory School of Medicine Guidelines for Appointment and Promotion, all new faculty are eligible for tenure, whether or not they intend to pursue tenure.
