Country Medical Director Romania

We have an exciting opportunity for a talented Director to join Romania Gilead team.

The Country Medical Director will be the scientific responsible for the company's products in Romania. The Country Medical Director will lead all Medical Affairs activities across all Gilead therapeutic areas in Romania and will have strong collaboration with Governmental Affairs, Public Affairs and Market Access and take an active role in partnership activities.

The Country Medical Director leads and manages a team of Medical Affairs personnel in Romania.

Essential Functions:
  • Sets the vision and direction of the Medical Affairs department by enhancing and embedding the Gilead culture and values
  • Responsible for ensuring the successful dissemination of innovative clinical information to thought-leaders and foster medical and scientific information exchange from and throughout the specific disease communities.
  • Develops and maintains positive professional relationships with current and emerging therapeutic area thought-leaders based on mutual respect and Gilead's sincere interest in sharing its perspective on medical therapies. This includes but is not limited to Gilead-marketed products, and obtaining feedback from the independent community of relevant healthcare professionals.
  • As member of the Romanian Leadership Team, ensures cross-functional collaboration & alignment and acts as business partner to the General Manager
  • Through scientific exchange, ensures the provision of strategic input to Commercial, Market Access, Government & Public Affairs
  • May act as the scientific spokesperson for Romania, as per need and set processes
  • Coaches, oversees and conducts performance evaluations of his Medical team via active observation of the team; establishment of clearly defined team and individual goals & objectives (quantitative and qualitative); implementation of processes to routinely monitor progress
  • Plans for headcount and other resources
  • Oversees the development and execution of strategic plans consistent with the Therapeutic Area Medical Affairs Plan of Action (POA) and ensures alignment with other departments, in the context of affiliate empowerment spirit. Ensures budget planning and accuracy.
  • Fosters the team spirit and ensures the effective and compliant collaboration with colleagues in other functional areas such as Clinical Research, Medical Services, Sales and Marketing, etc. Works independently with minimal supervision.


Knowledge, Experience & Skills:
  • The ideal candidate will be an MD, preferably with board certification in one of Gilead's key areas. Previous experience in Gilead's key therapeutic areas is highly relevant.
  • Extensive experience in the industry in Romania
  • Must have demonstrated organizational skills to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • The ideal candidate will enjoy performing through others as much as being an excellent individual contributor with attention to detail.
  • The individual must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills along with excellent judgment and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Prior supervisory/leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability to travel to domestic and international conferences which will include occasional weekend travel is required.
  • Fluency in English, both oral and written.
