Supervisory Research Molecular Biologist/ Geneticist Research Leader (Center Director)

The U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, Plant Gene Expression Center (PGEC) in Albany, California invites applications for a permanent, full time Supervisory Research Molecular Biologist/ Geneticist who will serve as the Research Leader (Center Director) for the program. The successful candidate will have expertise in plant molecular biology and/or plant genetics, and will be responsible for developing a research program in predictive agriculture that combines aspects of genomics and genetics, molecular biology, physiology, biochemistry, and/or metagenomics with computational biology to generate new tools for breeding that improve performance of agricultural crops. Areas of research interest include enhancing plant productivity, adaptation to climate change, biotic and/or abiotic stress tolerance, signal transduction, plant metabolism, and plant-microbiome interactions. The PGEC is a world-renowned institute that conducts foundational and translational plant biology research to improve agriculture. The candidate will direct PGEC research as a whole, hire and mentor new scientists, and manage resources. PGEC research is conducted through a close collaborative partnership with the University of California, Berkeley, where PGEC scientists have the opportunity for Adjunct Faculty status in the Department of Plant and Microbial Biology.
