The Department of Surgery at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine seeks a Vice Chair of Research who will be a full-time tenure track Investigator at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.  Responsibilities include leading the Department’s research agenda and infrastructure, including grant submissions, lab space, mentorship to early career faculty, shared equipment issues, etc. The Vice Chair of Research will help grow our federally funded research program, consistent with departmental and university missions. S/he will develop and sustain ongoing collaborative relationships with research leadership throughout the department and the university.  As of fiscal year 2020, the Department of Surgery has $25.8M in total research funding ($9.3M in NIH funding), and approximately 21,839 square feet of laboratory-based research space on campus.

Qualified candidates could be a scientist or physician-scientist, with an MD and/or PhD. If a physician, candidates must (1) be board certified or eligible by the American Board of Surgery and pertinent subspecialty, if applicable; (2) have completed an accredited fellowship or equivalent training in their respective area of practice, and (3) be able to obtain permanent Illinois licensure. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in securing extramural funding to support academic endeavors, which may be in the basic, translational, clinical trial or health services outcomes research.
