Open Rank, Tenure Track Faculty Position in Neuroscience

The Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine (OUWB) is seeking applicants for a full-time tenure-track open rank position in neuroscience. We seek a research-oriented faculty member who will complement and/or extend existing basic science and translational research interests within the Department of Foundational Medical Studies, the Eye Research Institute, Beaumont Health and the Beaumont Research Institute. Individuals with an established track record of translational interdisciplinary neuroscience research, proven expertise in neuropharmacology and neurotoxicology and demonstrated interest in investigating biochemical, physiological and/or pathophysiological processes of the cerebrovascular and retinal vascular systems (including the Blood-Brain and Blood-Retinal barriers), as well as related neurological and degenerative diseases, are encouraged to apply. Applicants who have a nationally or internationally recognized research program, current extramural funding, and expertise in vascular modeling (including stem cell-derived platforms), drug discovery, cellular signaling, and other cutting-edge in vitro and in vivo methodologies are highly desirable.

The School of Medicine recognizes outstanding research, teaching, and service for promotion and tenure in the investigator track. Initial academic rank of the recruited individual will be determined based on qualifications including research productivity and scholarship, national/international recognition, and extramural grant support. A competitive start-up package will be provided based on the rank and funding status of the applicant.

General Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be expected to:
1. Manage a productive research laboratory, mentor graduate and medical students, perform innovative research, and continually publish and present his/her work at local, national, and international research conferences.
2. Work cooperatively and effectively with a diverse population of faculty (clinical and basic science), staff, and students in various settings, including the laboratory, classroom, and clinical sites, to foster collaborative research and enhance the learning experience.
3. Teach medical and graduate students in an appropriate area of expertise.
4. Secure extramural support and maintain a robust research program.
5. Participate in departmental governance and university service, and contribute to the highly collaborative and innovative environment within the scientific community at OUWB.

Additionally, candidates must have:

• A commitment to advancing a culture and climate of diversity and inclusion and serving a diverse population.
• The ability or strong potential to provide effective teaching and mentoring to medical, graduate, and/or health science students.

A terminal degree (e.g., PhD, MD, DO, or equivalent) in an appropriate and applicable field.
