The Department of Neurosciences at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) (http://neurosciences.ucsd.edu/) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff and student body and is recruiting for a Ladder Rank (Tenure-Track) faculty position at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level.

The successful candidate will be expected to become an integral partner in the research efforts of the Department of Neurosciences and the Shiley-Marcos Alzheimer's Disease Research Center. These programs are part of the cross-campus UC San Diego commitment to excellence in Alzheimer's disease and related disorders. UC San Diego has one of the longest funded Alzheimer's Disease Research Centers and has internationally renowned programs in basic and clinical research into the cause, effects, and treatment of Alzheimer's disease and related neurodegenerative disorders. Its excellence is further enhanced by strong partnerships with scientists from the Salk Institute, The Scripps Research Institute, and the Sanford-Burnham-Prebys Medical Discover Institute.

Teaching and mentorship opportunities will be available in the School of Medicine and in various Graduate Programs, including the highly-rated UCSD Graduate Program in Neurosciences. Training grants in aging and Alzheimer's Disease, including programs to enhance diversity of the research and clinical workforce, will foster the research program of the successful candidate by enhancing the educational and career development landscape available to recruited trainees.

Candidates must have a PhD and/or MD degree or equivalent. Candidates with an MD degree must have completed basic sciences training in Alzheimer's disease or a related specialty, or have a track record of expertise, productivity, and funding in the area.

Candidates must have demonstrated scientific expertise in basic or translational neuroscience research in aging, neurodegeneration, and Alzheimer's disease, with established expertise in one or several of the following: induced pluripotent stem cell or other human cell models of disease (e.g. organoids, iNeurons, etc.), molecular genetics, gene editing, and/or systems biology approaches to understanding disease mechanisms, molecular and cellular biology as applied to mechanisms of neurodegeneration and/or aging, and incorporating models of mitochondrial or neuronal/non-neuronal cell interactions or influences.

Candidates must have demonstrated research excellence and successful funding in projects that thoughtfully consider the effects and influence of aging and/or metabolism is preferred.

The appropriate series and appointment at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level will be based on the candidate's qualifications and experience. Series will include 50% Ladder Rank / 50% In- Residence with secured extramural funding or 100% Ladder Rank. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on University of California pay scales.
