The Position
This role resides within the automation engineering team at the Cork site. The individual is responsible for the support and continual development of the business information systems within the ownership of the automation group across all areas of the manufacturing site. The automation infrastructure consists of a wide variety of complex control systems, with real time data collection & archiving (OSI PI) that operate within a highly regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.

Job duties include:
  • Lead the development of data analysis and visualization from our automation systems by understanding the needs / challenges of the business. Developing new ways of utilizing / visualizing the data to support a better understanding of our process and the resolution of production challenges.
  • Proactively build and develop partnerships with key stakeholders to fully understand and document the requirements for the in-scope BIS. Develop and mature the procedures for managing the in-scope BIS such as SOP's, Work Instructions, Access Requests and Change Requests. Also, proceduralise the interaction with project teams that are relevant to in-scope BIS
  • Lead BIS related projects when required such as system updates, addition of new equipment following established PMO guidelines on delivery throughout the project life-cycle
  • Input into the development of the site automation strategy for the site.
  • Manage the compliance aspects associated with the in-scope business information systems (BIS) such as change management controls, corrective action / preventative action procedures
  • Participate in a team that provides automation support for the production equipment and associated systems
  • Comply with established Gilead Sciences practices, policies and processes
  • Perform scheduled activities as tracked through the equipment management system
  • Active participant in the global automation community and represent the automation team as appropriate when participating in global meetings
  • Mentor the more junior members of the team

    Knowledge, Experience and Skills:
  • At minimum a BSc / BEng third level qualification related to the field of Software Development or Data Management. Preferably an MSc in Software Development or Computer Science.
  • A good level of relevant BIS experience ideally within the life sciences sector
  • Must demonstrate effective communication skills with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrate effective teamwork abilities within diverse team environments
  • Highly organized with strong time management techniques and meticulous attention to detail
  • Demonstrable project management experience and skills and previous experience of managing project timelines and resources
  • Must be fully proficient in the design, development and maintenance of relational database systems - primarily MS SQL and Oracle DB systems. Preferably previous experience as a Database Administrator in a similar environment
  • Proficient in the design and development of visualizations interfaces using Tableau
  • Experienced with quality compliance systems and the use of change management techniques within regulated industries
  • Knowledge in the development and debug of applications using .NET, PowerShell Scripting and Python
  • Ideally a knowledge in the development and configuration of the OSI Soft Historian and associated range of software products for industrial applications
  • Demonstrate an interest in the field of machine learning frameworks and the use of these frameworks to solve real world applications
