The Department of Microbiology, Immunology & Molecular Genetics invites applications for a full-time, open-rank faculty position. Faculty rank and tenure status to be determined by candidate qualifications and subject to committee review. Requires a PhD and/or MD degree or equivalent. Rank and salary commensurate with experience.

The successful candidate will be expected to bring and maintain ongoing external funding to conduct independent research, preferably in the areas of mucosal host-pathogen interactions, molecular genomics, and/or microbial influences on oncogenesis. The department is particularly interested in candidates exploring the impact of the microbiome on cancer, and the successful candidate will be expected to develop a center for investigating the impact of the microbiome on cancer origin and therapy. In addition to research, this individual will be expected to teach appropriate courses at the graduate level, engage in scholarly activities, and participate in mentorship.

The Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio is among the top 50 medical schools in the nation. The Department of Microbiology, Immunology & Molecular Genetics has 19 faculty members, who all actively engage in research to understand host-pathogen interactions, immune evasion, and immunopathology. Current strengths in the department include mucosal infections and immune defense, vaccine development, and epigenetics of the immune response. The department has >$9 M in extramural funding, of which $7 M is from NIH. The burgeoning San Antonio economy supports a growing biotechnology sector, superb quality of life, excellent fine arts, strong schools and reasonable housing, as well as year around recreational opportunities.
