Lab-Herlyn - Associate Staff Scientist/Staff Scientist

The Wistar Institute has an opening for a highly motivated Associate Staff Scientist/Staff Scientist to join the laboratory of Dr. Meenhard Herlyn. The laboratory has established a large repository of PDX (patient-derived xenografts) and organoids, which we continue to genomically and biologically characterize. We are also developing new strategies for therapy using signaling inhibitors and immune therapeutics, alone and in combinations. Novel in vitro and in vivo models closely mimic the conditions in patients including the interactions of human stromal and immune cells with melanoma cells. The dynamics of immune cell modulation is studied with iPS cell-derived cellular lineages and the reconstruction of organ-type structures. We are attempting to understand the mechanisms of anti-tumor immune responses and establish novel criteria for successful, personalized therapies.

A PhD or equivalent degree and 5 years of post-doctoral experience are required. The ideal candidate will be an excellent team player, both within the laboratory and with our outside collaborators, able to work productively on multiple projects, eager to learn new techniques (i.e., CRISPR-Cas9, barcoding, single-cell RNAseq, iPS cell differentiation, organ reconstruction), have mouse handling experience, and are self-starters. Experience in Immunology is a plus.

In addition to submitting the online application, interested applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and a list of three professional references to Dr. Meenhard Herlyn via e-mail at herlynm@wistar.org.

We offer a competitive salary and an excellent benefits package.

The Wistar Institute is located in the University City area of Philadelphia, in the heart of the University of Pennsylvania Campus. Wistar provides resources to its faculty and staff that enable them to conduct cutting edge collaborative research and provides for outstanding intellectual environments and state-of-the-art facilities. Research discoveries conducted at Wistar have led to the development of vaccines; the identification of genes associated with cancers; and the development of many other significant research technologies and tools.
