The University of Missouri (MU) Mutant Mouse and Rat Resource and Research Centers are seeking a postdoctoral fellow to oversee and implement projects designed to develop and optimize translatability of rodent models of SARS-CoV-2. Research directions include studies on post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 (Long COVID), development and characterization of novel genetically engineered rodent models (including rat and mouse models) and their response to multiple viral strains and understanding the role of differing complex gut microbiota and targeted pathogen infection on the pathogenesis of SARS-CoV-2.

The fellow will be part of a multidisciplinary team that includes expertise in infectious disease, immunology, metagenomics, host genetics and rodent modeling in general. Resources include the NIH-funded Mutant Mouse Resource and Research Center and Rat Resource and Research Center, the Laboratory for Infectious Disease Research, one of 12 Regional Biocontainment laboratories in the country and several University of Missouri core facilities including animal modeling and metagenomics cores.

The position is available immediately for highly motivated candidates. Minimum qualification: Doctorate in a life-science related field at the time of appointment. Preferred candidates will have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in virology, microbiology, immunology or a related field, knowledge in virology, molecular and cellular biology techniques, and previous experience with animal models with an emphasis on models of viral disease. Applicants without prior experience in these areas but with a strong interest in virology and immunology are also encouraged to apply.

Interested applicants can submit an application along with a cover letter, curriculum vitae (including a list of publications) and a list of three references (in a single pdf) to the University of Missouri website (Job ID 38096): https://hrs.missouri.edu/find-a-job/academic. Applications will be considered until a suitable applicant is found.

Questions can be directed to Craig Franklin, DVM, PhD (franklinc@missouri.edu).
