MRC Postdoctoral Research Scientist

Single Molecule Imaging Group. LMS

Fixed-term, 3 years

£32,302 - £35,143* plus London allowances (£3,727 & £1,402) per annum

London, UK

This postdoctoral position is available within the Single Molecule Imaging Group headed by Prof David Rueda. The MRC London Institute of Medical Sciences (LMS) is a core-funded Institute of the Medical Research Council (MRC) and is a Division of the Department of Medicine at Imperial College London. Based in the Hammersmith Hospital Campus in West London (W12), the LMS has world class facilities and provides investigators from clinical and basic science backgrounds with the opportunity to pursue innovative, multidisciplinary research within the excellence of Imperial College. For more information, visit http://www.lms.mrc.ac.uk/.

The Sigle Molecule Imaging Group develops and applies single molecule-based microscopy (SMM) approaches to study fundamental biological processes involving proteins and nucleic acids with molecular resolution. We are particularly interested in elucidating various RNA and DNA processing mechanisms, such as gene expression chromatin structure and DNA repair. The group’s research program combines multi-disciplinary approaches (including single-molecule FRET, optical and magnetic tweezers, live-cell imaging, biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology, etc) to elucidate these mechanisms at the molecular level.

In collaboration with the Group of Prof Dale Wigley (Imperial College London), we are developing single molecule FRET and optical tweezers (Lumicks C-trap) assays to investigate the molecular mechanisms by which INO80-family protein complexes (such as SWR1) remodel chromatin (e.g., see Willhoft et al 2018 Science). We are now looking for a talented postdoc to apply this technology to further elucidate these mechanisms.

This is an MRC Postdoctoral Scientist position, providing training and development supporting post-doctoral scientists in early or changed career paths helping establish them as successful research scientists in their chosen field. The MRC is a unique working environment where our researchers are rewarded by cutting-edge innovation and collaboration opportunities that the MRC name brings.  Choosing to work at the MRC means that you will have access to a whole host of benefits from a generous salary pension scheme and excellent holiday entitlement to access to employee shopping/travel discounts and salary sacrifice cycle-to-work scheme, as well as the chance to put the MRC on your CV in the future.

The MRC London Institute of Medical Sciences is a research institute within UK Research and

Innovation. UK Research and Innovation is a new entity that brings together nine partners to create an independent organisation with a strong voice for research and innovation, more information can be found at www.ukri.org
